Red Eyed Crocodile Skinks are striking, small lizards known for their distinctive bright red eyes and textured, crocodile-like scales. Native to New Guinea, these semi-aquatic reptiles thrive in humid, tropical environments with plenty of moisture and hiding spots.
These skinks require a well-maintained enclosure with high humidity levels (80–90%), warm temperatures (75–85°F), and a mix of land and water areas. They're primarily nocturnal and prefer low lighting, making them ideal for keepers who enjoy observing unique, low-profile reptiles. A 40-gallon breeder tank or larger works well for a single skink.
Diet consists mainly of small insects like crickets, roaches, and waxworms. They're generally docile but can be skittish, so minimal handling is recommended. With proper care, these fascinating reptiles can live 15+ years, making them a rewarding long-term commitment for experienced reptile enthusiasts.
